Lecture 2 - Site ( Scale of the Built Environment )

  • Production is a factor of scale.
  • There are seven scales are used by the various professions in built environment.
  • Seven scales are object , interior , building , premise , urban , regional and global.

intention - ideologies , design theories

act - scope of work ( development's prosedures )

product - design of physical objects to physical world

actor - industrial designer ( object ) , interior architect ( interior ) , architect ( building ) , landscape architect ( premise ) , urban designer ( urban ) , planner ( regional ) , " governor " ( global )

rule - legal aspects of developments

site - from factories to the internet

  • These seven scales need to be properly looked at.
  • While scale 1-6 may be detailed out by students , the scale 7 is indicated by a question of how we look at the globe
  • The earth becomes a dying planet may be explained using the Production Model as follows:

intention - gold , glory

act - design and build

product - destruction

actor - earthling , inhabitant of earth , global villager , designer , builder , developer

rule - economics

site - earth

  • The dying planet is a sustainable earth?
